Hey, welcome! Time is precious and the internet is overwhelming, so I’m happy that you’re here.
I second-guessed myself a few hundred times before starting a Substack because "Hasn't everything already been said or done already???” And to that I’ll keep telling myself—and maybe you too?—no!
Culture is constantly shifting under our feet, quietly changing how we think and what we like. The moment we think we really “get it,” it’s gone. We’ll never really hold the complete picture because the truth is, we’re all standing on a slightly different hill, looking out at a slightly different view.
San Francisco taught me that. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for ten years. San Francisco’s hilly topography and moody weather mean it can never be fully known. Every cottage window, narrow alley, rocky knoll, and mossy staircase suddenly offers a new perspective on a city you thought you knew.

A few weeks ago I was walking with a friend in Golden Gate Park. She told me a story about two ceramics classes who were given two very different prompts by the same teacher. The first class was told to make as many pots as possible. The second was told to shape the most perfect pot they could. After several weeks had elapsed, can you guess which group was more satisfied by what they had produced?
So watch this space. I think there’s about to be a whole lot of weird pots.
I plan to write about social design—the ways we live, make friends, love people, and operate in society. I want to focus on beauty—the design, art, and experiences that are capturing something real and exquisite and true. And I want to focus on the people and brands successfully world-building—the things people really want to experience and be a part of, or at least will soon.
I’m excited to see where that takes us.
